Rosemont West Neighborhood Annual Meeting
January 24, 2008
Call to Order: 7:06 p.m.
Kitty Reeve, our President opened the meeting and introduced new neighbors and members Jim and Maureen Marks. They told us about their water harvesting project and offered info to anyone interested.
Kitty explained who we are and what we do. Some of this years events:
The triangle at Melissa and Niven. Bill Swink is in charge of the bulletin board. Anyone can post a notice. Cort volunteered to paint the bus stop.
Our spring picnic was a huge success with over 100 people attending. Music was provided by a school jazz band.
The scupper bridge on Winsett was completed and additional boulders/rocks added to keep people from driving around it.
Hoffman Park has a walking path of 1542 feet. Four times around is approximately a mile.
We did a “neighborhood clean up” at the Sevilli residence at Rosemont and Winsett. It was a huge undertaking and the family is very grateful. The City donated the roll-off bins which we filled twice!
Nina Trasoff, our Ward 6 representative spoke of the good news that Hershey was discontinuing its production of the “icebreaker” packaging. She reminded us what making some noise can do.
She told she of the meeting she had just come from (Rio Nuevo) and gave us some info:
Review of 4th Avenue road construction/courthouse condos project had new contractors but costs have risen/there will be 2 or 3 bars downtown/new and larger gem show/affordable transportation
She feels progress in going in right direction.
Questions were raised re our area paving. What is the hold up? Apparently there is water main work going on so the paving was pushed back. This was also discussed last annual meeting!
Real estate taxes were the next issue. Nina suggested that anyone with a problem needs call the appropriate office and challenge their valuation.
Linda Heffernan brought up the point of strategical/tactical issues that we can concentrate on. Richard Flores asked what we as an association could to do assist her office. Give us two or three items that we can concentrate on.
Nina indicated she had never had that put to her that way before and wanted to think about it and would definitely get back to us.
Steve Campbell reminded us that any questions/concerns BE INVOLVED – DON’T ASSUME
Call the appropriate authorities. We have phone numbers in our newletter.
Before leaving, Nina and Monique told us about two tours coming with the Ward 6 staff. One is the Rio Nuevo project and the other is the landfill and recycling plant.
Kitty recognized our current board and the treasurer’s report was read.
Theresa Riel and Barb Stoddard were the nominating committee. They explained the what being on the board or being a member entailed.
Nomination were: Ray Burns for President/Steve Campbell for Vice President/Shirlyn Green (with assistance from Theresa Riel and Barb Haffner) for Secretary and Barbara Stoddard for Treasurer.
Vote was taken and all passed.
Theresa asked for volunteers for street representatives. Several people volunteered and were approved.
A request was made by Kitty and Theresa for someone to help Brad with the newsletter. This is a huge job and he done it extremely well. Linda Heffernan offered to do it and we are very grateful!
All neighbors were encouraged to attend our monthly meetings.
Josh and Jessica Renteria discussed the situation they are facing on E. Julia. There is a halfway house and it seems the person who is supposed to be in charge is not there very much. There have been instances of alcohol containers and crack pipes in the park as well as someone driving in the park. They have children (as do lots of people in the neighborhood) and want to something done.
Monique took their information and will get the police involved ASAP.
Meeting adjourned at 8:40 PM
